If We Lose the Arctic, We Lose the World

We believe in a strong, engaged, informed, and dynamic North to create better lives and environments for all Arctic peoples. Stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska and established in 2019, UArctic Foundation US partners with UArctic to build capacity in the North.

The Arctic sees the strongest impacts of climate change today. While it has just a fraction of a percent of the world’s population, the Arctic contributes around 20% of globally important resources such as minerals, energy, fish, and freshwater. The Arctic is a vital region and UArctic plays a key role in ensuring that northern realities are shared across the world.

Our Mission

The UArctic Foundation US was established to support Arctic higher education efforts of UArctic, a cooperative forum of universities, colleges, research institutes and other organizations in matters regarding northern regions, organized and headquartered in Rovaniemi, Finland, including participation by US higher education institutions and their students, faculty and staff, in activities of the University of the Arctic.

The mission of UArctic is to develop knowledge to address local and global challenges of relevance to Arctic peoples and societies by providing unique educational, research, and innovation opportunities through collaboration within a powerful network of member institutions.
